Homelands

Synopsis

Homelands is the culmination of a year-long project in which four acclaimed British urban musicians returned to their respective homelands to connect with their cultural roots and create and produce new music. Mercury Music Prize-nominated Terri Walker travelled to Jamaica, double-Mobo winner Shakka visited Dominica, while grime artists Diztortion and Saskilla headed to Suriname and Senegal, respectively.

Note: Homelands will be preceded by a screening of the short film Scars of Our Mothers’ Dreams.

About the Director

Tara is a video artist from London.She has created content for end clients including Reebok, HSBC & Shell, has worked on films for Channel 4’s Random Acts strand and been commissioned by London Live Television. Her previous projects have been supported by the BFI, the European Cultural Foundation, and exhibited multiple times at Sheffield Doc/Fest, Edinburgh International Film Fest, IDFA & Raindance.Jaha is a director who creates documentaries, music videos and digital content. She has received funding from the BFI and European Culture Foundation to make experimental documentaries, and in 2015 her short film Unify was featured in the hour long documentary Life Through My Lens which was broadcasted on BBC 3 Fresh. Jaha’s films have successfully screened at leading film festivals such as IDFA and DOKLeipzig.
